Founded in 2001, Christian Peth and his wife Maja Luise lead the team at Weingut Peth-Wetz, located between Worms and Alzey in Germany’s Rheinhessen. As both owner and cellarmaster, Christian cultivates 30ha of vineyards around the towns of Bermersheim, Dalsheim and Westhofen, where his vines grow in loess and limestone soils. The wines are both striking and confident. Christian doesn't shy away from powerful, tannic and concentrated wines of distinctive character. In fact, he came to appreciate the style during his studies and apprenticeships in Chile, Australia, the USA and at Geisenheim University in Germany. Maja’s also done her share of travel and her time in Luxembourg, Turkey and Florida had a profound impact, laying the groundwork for an open-mindedness similar to Christian's. Unsurprisingly, Peth-Wetz focuses not just on German classics, but also a range of classic French varieties less common here. The decision to produce international wines of a distinct regional character is one that reflects their deepest convictions rather than the latest trends.

In more recent years Christian has started to experiment with producing Sekt, German's answer to bubbly, and with this blend of the classic Champagne varieties (Chardonnay & Pinot Noir) he doesn't disappoint.

Tasting Note:
Clear, ripe quince fruit on the nose. Easily reminiscent of a Williams pear brandy. Very elegant appearance in the mouth and almost tender on the tongue. Well integrated perlage. Very harmonious on the palate with a fine minerality that tastes almost a little salty.
