Keith Tulloch ‘McKelvey Vineyard’ Shiraz

£20.42
These thoughtful, hand-crafted wines hail from the Hunter Valley with a nod in part to the great Rhône Valley wines of Hermitage and Cote Rôtie. For those who may have tasted any legendary Hunter Shiraz wines of the 40s, 50s and 60s, tasting many of the modern Hunter wines can be a depressing experience but Keith Tulloch is very different, adding to that great legacy with a series of wines that uniquely capture the exotic spice and hedonistic pleasure of dense and rich Shiraz fruit. These are sensuous, subtle wines with the velvety texture of fine Burgundy.

Equally laden with dark black fruit intensity, a fine gaminess with hints of sweet, floral savouriness. A wonderful structure which balances the blackberry and plummy dark fruits with a bright spicy lift of rosemary, all-spice herb, cured meat, plus fine clove. Large format oak has held the oak influence to a minimum. Here the brightness of fruit and its floral freshness really deserves to hold all of your attention. The McKelvey delivers savoury excellence. It is incredibly young in its voyage of development yet so remarkable in its delivery. Over time it will build momentum and dial-up in every element.
