Teliani Glekhuri Kisi Qvevri

£24.02
Teliani is an old winery dating back to the 1800s and they have survived the various incursions into Georgia from their northern neighbours including the Soviet invasion of the 1920s. They still produce a lot of wine for the Russian market – they would be stupid not to – but they are astute enough to not want this to be the sum of what they do, and self-aware enough to imagine what could be possible if they develop the right philosophy for their business. They have a team of innovative young winemakers who are given the time, equipment, fruit and support they need to create really exciting things, and we think some of that is evident in the selection we have here.

If orange is the new black, amber is the old orange. The wine is made from the traditional Kisi grape grown in the villages of Akhmeta district. Whole bunches are fermented in underground qvevri, lending the wine it’s amber colour, distinctive flavour and mildly tannic structure. Don't chill it, you'll just bring the tannins forward at the expense of the lovely flavours - serve cool, not cold! Works well with light poultry dishes, charcuterie and salads.

Tasting Note:
Kisi is a native Georgian grape with sweet spice notes and great acidity, perfect for maintaining freshness. Fermentation in Qvevries adds great complexity and texture to this 'amber' wine.
