Tapanappa Tiers Vineyard Chardonnay, Piccadilly Valley

£51.53
Tapanappa, located just north of Coonawarra, is the project of Brian Croser (formerly of Petaluma), Jean-Charles Cazes of Chateau Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, and Socit Jacques Bollinger, the parent company of Champagne Bollinger. The defining mission of the partnership is to produce Australian fine wines of distinction. These wines are taken from three distinguished sites; the Tiers Vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, the Foggy Hill Vineyard on the southern edge of the Fleurieu Peninsula and the Whalebone Vineyard in Wrattonbully. The partnership has the added advantage of being able to draw on the partners’ extensive “old world” fine wine experience, enhancing Tapanappa’s ability to produce unique Australian “terroir” driven wines.

The Tiers Vineyard is in the second coolest and the wettest location in South Australia, the Piccadilly Valley. It is absolutely suited to Chardonnay being an almost perfect homo-clime of Burgundy and especially mirrors the southern end of the Cotes de Beaune where the great Montrachets are grown. The Tiers Vineyard tilts gently to the north and east in a sheltered valley that takes best advantage of the autumn sun in the northern sky to extract the last rays of ripening energy at the cool end of the harvest. It has been managed fastidiously by hand on a vine-by-vine basis. The vines are now over 30 years old and in perfect balance with their environment at the low crop level of 6 tonnes/hectare.

Tasting Note:
Riper honey and fig characters complement the peach flavour and aroma and significant texture. The wine finishes with a grapefruit and quince nuance.
