Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard, Chablis St Claire

£26.15
The domaine of Jean-Marc Brocard began as just one hectare, a wedding gift from his winegrowing father-in-law. He has since expanded to 200 hectares, of which half are organic or biodynamic, and is widely recognized as one of Chablis’s leading producers. The low-impact approach in the vineyard – ploughing in place of herbicides, predators instead of pesticides, manure rather than fertilizer, and as little spraying as the grapes’ health requires – is matched by a hands-off winemaking philosophy. The results are pure, unadorned expressions of the great chalk slopes of Chablis.

The Chablis Sainte Claire (Organic) offers terrific depth and plenty of texture, along with clean, bracing underpinning that add both freshness and nuance without being overpowering. Lemon oil, tangerine, mango, white flowers, honey and mint are pushed forward in this decidedly bold Chablis. A whole range of more exotic, tropical notes develop with time in the glass.

Tasting Note:
On the nose, notes of lemon, yellow fruits. The mouth is wrapped, balanced, and tangy.
