Langlois Chateau Cremant de Loire Brut NV

£19.14
Edouard Langlois and his wife Jeanne Chateau founded their winemaking estate in 1885. Later generations carefully expanded the estate, building one of the finest and most representative vineyard holdings in the Loire Valley, a region known around the world for the quality, variety and value of its wines. The Loire Valley is France’s second largest producer of sparkling wine, so it was fitting that, in 1973, the Bollinger family took an ownership interest in Langlois-Chateau. Today Langlois-Chateau is best known for its rich and elegant Crémant de Loire sparkling wines, some of the finest in the region. Crémant de Loire is a rigorously regulated appellation that specifies hand grape-picking, light pressing and long maturation. Langlois-Chateau is the only Loire winery to control the winemaking process for its Crémant from start to finish.

Under the auspices of Bollinger, Langlois has further augmented the regulations to equal, and even exceed, those of Champagne: A majority of chalky soils, very favourable to elegant wines. Hand picking in small baskets in order to collect only the best grapes. 150 kg of grapes for 100 litres of must. A minimum maturing of 12 months in bottle. Selection of the grapes on the best terroirs of the area of Saumur. Total control of the pressing on our pneumatic press. Fermentation in small vats, allowing precise control.

Tasting Note:
Vibrant and racy fruit, bready yeast flavours and zesty appley freshness is accompanied by the waxed-lemon flavours of Chenin Blanc - a variety so clearly suited for sparkling production due to its fine acidity. The Chardonnay adds fruitiness and depth.
