Jean-Marc Burgaud, Beaujolais Blanc

£20.90
Vegan.

Coming from a winemaking family, it was almost inevitable that Jean-Marc would set up his own estate, which he did in 1989 with his wife Christine. Their 19 hectares are divided between Morgon (13 hectares), Régnié (one hectare) and Beaujolais Villages (five hectares) and Jean-Marc believes that this is the maximum area he can cultivate while still producing the quality he is after.

The Chardonnay for Jean-Marc’s Beaujolais Villages Blanc comes from a one-hectare site on clay soil in Lantignié. The Gamay previously planted here didn’t produce the sort of wines he was looking for, he decided it would be better suited to Chardonnay so in 2010 replanted the vineyard, and his hunch paid off - he is now one of the most respected producers of this region’s white wine.

Tasting Note:
This unoaked Beaujolais Blanc is expressive with notes of citrus and stone fruits on the nose. The palate is bright and lively with racy acidity giving this wine wonderful freshness.
